These are the tasks I’m tackling at the pre‑production phase:
• Orthographic views: Making the character usable for 3D modelers by offering a set of isometric views as templates.
• Concept art: Setting up tones, conveying lighting information and narrative elements.
• Storyboard & animatics
• Facial expressions
• Turnaround
Once you can count on a finished pre‑production, you know what your characters, environments and props are going to look like, what dimensions they are going to have, and what steps your production is going to involve. With that information, you can calculate your investments in money and time before you start moving any vertices. This is the point of no return.
