How did I deal with… using compositing techniques to make a 2D digital painting

I’m developing this method out of necessity. I went through some situations where I needed to quick‑paint concepts and the traditional method was too slow (solving everything with brush strokes on one layer). I’m repurposing what I learned from painting values using lead pencils, scanning, touching contrast, painting additional speculars and applying hue on an overlay layer. I am still painting by hand, so that brush strokes are visible, but using layers, and changing their blending properties. The artistic part in this particular method lies in identifying what layers should go with what brushes, and how to blend them, like in this example with no hue layers:
